I used this tool to do the timing on my 08 gmc acadia. Its possibly to do the job without the tool. However, why run any risk at all? Put your mind at ease and use it as a spot checker just to be absolutely certain. I would definitely buy again

Works exactly as advertised.

If you are going to replace timing chains on a 3.0 or 3.6L V6, get these cam locks. Don’t pay attention to the videos showing changing half the chains in phase one timing, then the other half in phase two timing. Set the engine to phase one timing, slide on the locks, replace all chains, aligning the timing marks. Done.

These lil guys made it so much easier to swap the timing chains on my cts. These allow you to service all 3 chains with only one set of timing marks. The dot on the crank sprocket is lined up with the dot on the bottom side of the oil pump. Once that’s done you use the “straight flats” tool on the drivers bank and the “angled flats” tool on the passenger side and that’s it no need for the 3rd tool.I used the Mellings 3.6 timing guide on the ol YouTube as a guide and it worked flawlessly.
