    I am the owner of a 2013 Nissan LEAF. In January my factory-original charger (120 V) finally had a mechanical failure, and I needed a new one asap!I purchased this charger based on the positive reviews and its very reasonable price. From the get-go, it’s been a real consistent charger and met or exceeded my expectations. Good value for the money!_UPDATE: July 3, 2019_My charger had a malfunction yesterday. Was still charging, but there was heat in the cord that was almost plastic-melting. Lights didn’t have a readout that made sense. I emailed BougeRV immediately. They handled the situation with straight-forward inquiries, image requests, and almost immediate feedback and responses via email.My unit is being replaced asap, with little muss or fuss. I offered send back my old unit on my own dime to help them check for potential manufacturing flaws. Alex at customer service was appreciative of this, and he also dealt with my needs in a professional manner. HIGHLY SATISFIED CUSTOMER REGARDLESS OF PRODUCT FAILURE.

    My wife bought an electric car, so we needed to install a charging station. After looking at reviews and studying the specs, I chose this one for its low cost and decent features. I just don’t think all the bells and whistles contribute much to charging a car. It’s easy to use… just plug it in and it works. I decided on this plug-in unit instead of a permanently mounted unit so that we can take it with us if we move.If you have the proper 220v circuit and plug where you park the car, installation is as simple as plugging it into the wall and plugging the charging end into the car. We don’t have 220v in our garage, but fortunately our laundry room with an unused 220V dryer circuit was close by. With decent DIY skills (and YouTube), you should be able to accomplish this sort of installation for an additional $50 in parts and a few hours work. I needed to install a different power receptacle as the charger’s plug is different from a regular electric dryer plug.If you need a new 220V circuit, you probably should hire an electrician to pull wires and do the installation. That could cost several hundred dollars, but charging on 110v is a non-starter (pun intended).

    The charger functions very well. Plug n play with Hyundai Ioniq 5, charges nicely at 40 amps when plugged into a NEMA 14-50 plug. A couple negatives – the lead cord is extremely short, so the nice included wall mount will have to be mounted directly below the outlet. Not enough slack to loop it up higher on the wall. Also, the WiFi functionality only works when you connect to the charger’s own WiFi, there appears to be no way to put it on your home network. But, for the money, it appears to be a decent basic home charging option that can juice up at 40A. So that’s a winner.

    This charger was installed for my new Ioniq 6 SEL and I love the fact I can plug in the car at home and start a charge in off peak hrs automatically. I would like to see more of the Wi-Fi app though and the charging is a little vague so I have the car set to charge at 21:00 till 5:00. Not the internal setting on the Wi-Fi page itself. Works as it should, plenty of cable but am thinking of getting the extension just in case of road trips to families house. I usually charge on 40 amp but now with the recall checked and software updated I’m going to try the 48 amp and see where that leads us

    I bought a new Kia EV 9 and the charger Kia provided was 110 volt, so it was going to take forever and a day to charge the charge. Kia was also will to sell me a level 2 charger for $700, but I found this one on Amazon and it half the price and does exactly what I wanted. I did notice that when I set it to use 50 amps, it will trip my 50 amp breaker, so I set it to 40 amps and it works great.

    I’m charging a 2023 KIA Niro EV with 65KWH battery which is capable of 11KW charge rate. I bought this cable for a trip to a NEMA 14-50 wired friend’s home ~108 miles away. The plan is, if no charging worked, I could make it back home without a charge, and if it did, then I’d get a full destination charge during the visit.When I arrived, there was a NEMA 14-50 plug attached to 6ga wire and 50A circuit waiting in the driveway. We plugged in the BougeRV adapter, then the J-1772 end to the vehicle. We were both delighted to see 11.1KW on the car dash and the low charge time of 1h40m. The BougeRV adapter display was reading 233VAC at 47A. It was 90F outside and since the case is black I decided it would be best to move the controller box to the shade of the car to keep temperatures due to direct sunlight down. Then read the manual. The only thing new in the manual was how to use the controller “Hot Spot”; password and IP to get the phone display on a web browser. It turns out, most of the information we needed was already on the controller display and modifiable with one button on the controller. All good so far, and we were impressed!20 minutes later the BougeRV adapter disconnected and charging stopped. The web interface was reading a temp of 52C (126F) in the adapter. The manual says thermal operating limits are 122F (50C). So we unplugged the J-1772 connector and waited for the temp to drop to 48C on the adapter display. Then I set the adapter to 40A (was 48A) and plugged the J-1772 back into the vehicle. The car was now saying ~9.5KW charge rate with correspondingly longer charge time. Not happy, but if it works… It took another 15 minutes, then the BougeRV adapter disconnected again. By now the outside temp had dropped to 88F and the BougeRV was still in the shade of the car. BTW, this is in Washington State, USA, a cooler part of the US, mid-summer.Next round I dropped charging to 32A which provided 7.2KW of charging, about the rate of most “free” L2 chargers and put an ice pack under the BougeRV adapter in an effort to keep it cooled. I don’t think it “finished” at 100%, but it was close when it shut off.The electrical engineer in me thinks the adapter does not have the necessary thermal heat-sinking to continuously provide 11KW without heating itself to thermal shutdown conditions. With many locations in the US reaching 120F, being able to handle heat is a requirement this unit doesn’t appear to meet. I otherwise liked how it operated, though it would be nice, as others have noted, to be able to connect it to local Wi-Fi, or wired Ethernet. This avoids the problem of the BougeRV unit being too far away from the phone for monitoring. Liking how the unit operates is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1.When a customer buys an 11KW unit, the expectation is the unit is designed to operate at 11KW for as long as it takes at a minimum of 160F degrees, outside, most likely on a black asphalt driveway in direct sunlight. This unit appears to suffer inadequate design. The fact that it operates at all suggests it operates as designed, but the power handling design is inadequate for the 11KW application.If you buy one of these, test it thoroughly for your application before heading for the boonies, thinking it will “just work” for you. You may otherwise find yourself stranded.=== 12/29/2024 UPDATE ===It is now winter in Washington State and the outside temp is 47F (8C) outside. I visited the same friend and tried this unit on the same car to charge from 85%-90%. The internal temp on the BougeRV adapter display got as high as 25C (77F) [maybe higher, I wasn’t watching all the time] at 48A (11.3KW) and the car charge reached the 90% charge level from 85% in about ~40 minutes. This appears to validate the summer problems reported earlier as temperature related. A 5% increase in charge at 11KW (48A) completed successfully at 47 degrees F outside temp. It was raining, which probably also helped the BougeRV adapter stay coolest.
