My old starter had quit so I bought this one, an improved version.Lots of torque and made me glad I did my homework before replacing the battery!The only small detail that bugs me is when I buy from Amazon.ca in Cdn funds it’s not apparent (to me )when an item is being shipped from the US, this is something that the vendor has no control over but it can add cost when it crosses the border.In this case it didn’t.

I’m absolutely impressed with this motor! I was reading reviews and came across a reviewer that said to spend the extra money and get the high quality Kohler motor that had been updated and was supposed to turn over your engine faster. As opposed to cheaping out on the Chinese brand knockoff.After installing this motor I found that to be 100% true. this motor absolutely turns over the motor much faster!The motor because of this starts up much quicker as well. As before it would take a solid 4 seconds of starting for the engine to run, now it starts within the first full second, if that gives you any idea of how quickly this thing makes your engine start. Now I don’t have to wear out my battery to crank it as long as it used to.The only thing that I would mention is that the base of the motor where the bolts Will pass through is slightly thicker and you will likely need slightly longer bolts to bolt this motor on. this was a simple fix for me as I have a hard wear right down the street and they were helpful with finding me a two bolts to match my original bolts. I was In-N-Out in 5 minutes!I completely agree! Bye the upgraded motor, save your battery and be happy with your purchase. At $103 and I being a Penny pinching, frugal man still think it was worth every penny to get the amount of power and quality I got out of this motor to turn over my engine. Absolutely worth every penny!Dang, it started so fast!I’ve added pictures of my machine. 22 horsepower Kohler engine on Craftsman machine.

The starter on my SV710 would occasionally spin, but not engage with the motor. Over time it became more and more frequent to the point I couldn’t get the mower started one day. I pulled the cover one day to see the gear was not popping up thus not turning over the engine. After pulling the gear up a few times I was able to get the mower started but immediately went online to get a replacement starter.If you are searching for a replacement you have probably noticed the Chinese knockoffs for $40-$50 and think they are a deal but read some reviews and you will find they seem to have a high fail rate. Yeah this starter is 2x as expensive but it has a bigger shaft, more torque, and its OEM. Well maybe.As others have mentioned there is no formal markings that state Kohler on it. It could be OEM equipment made by a manufacture Kohler buys from, but it’s definitely not Kohler.Long story short, its a relatively quick change out and it works. Once the cover is off there are 2 bolts that mount it to the motor and 1 bolt for the power. As a side note, this model is shorter than the one removed, but it makes no difference as the space between the gear and the mounting bolts is the same, its just the physical motor that is shorter.Others have stated that this model spins faster and starts the mower quicker; I can’t really say I notice a difference. Others most likely had a starter going bad and it was slowing down over time so the new one seems faster. Mine old starter was spinning fine, just not popping up to engage. After install I started the mower twice with it and it worked so thus far I am happy.A few low star reviews say it has a short life and I hope I am not in that category. If it does fail, I will update this review and warn you to buy the cheep Chinese knockoff that fails but is half the cost.

Unit came in a Kohler box with Kohler documents. The unit is shorter and fatter than the original fit right in place of the old one on the Kohler sv710.The old starter covid barely turn the engine 1 revolution with out trouble.The new starter spun the engine over with ease..Time will tell how it really works. If you don’t see any updates it means it’s still working..

Easy to install (2 bolts and a battery cable nut) at about 15 minutes. Took more time to reinstall the engine cover.Original starter would regularly spin up without engaging starter ring. Read reviews and went with a little more expensive oem Kohler unit. New starter works exactly as expected. Will try to overhaul old starter and keep it on the shelf but needed mower now.

Live in a small BC community accessed by Ferry, can’t believe how fast I got the starter. It was an original Kohler starter for my VTwin tractor and was easy to install. Works like a charm. Could have ordered other cheaper starters, would have waited how long and would the have fit and worked as well as the stock one. Very satisfied!

I do not write reviews just after receiving an item. I think time should pass to really know if the review made was the right one. This is the exception. The starter arrived yesterday and was installed in ten minutes. When the key was turned the lawn tractor came to life again. No more winning noise which is all I got five days ago from the old starter. Amazon came through in a time of need with a competitive price and fast delivery. Thank You. I knew stens made starters for kohler, but didn’t want to order the 300 starter. Came boxed as kohler which is a good thing. Worked great. Tractor wouldn’t start or spin. Took out old starter and it blocked the engine from spinning. Though motor was blown, but was just starter. New one fixed the problem

I bought this starter motor for a widow whose starter had puked. Installation was a snap and I had her going with her Snapper Mower in no time. It took about a week to get the starter, which is pretty fast for rural Montana. I definitely would purchase the Stens line of parts as this one seemed to be as close to OEM as possible.

This is the one you want, it’s the 10S replacement, even though the listing says 8S, this is the new and improved one, high quality, works great, fast shipping, I got mine in 2 1/2 days, before it got here, I thought I ordered the wrong one because the top of the listing says 8S, I contacted them and they said, if it’s not the one I wanted, just send it back, no problem. No need for that, I opened the box and it was the good one, I think I’ve been using it for about six months on a Kohler 26HP, works perfect, better than the original one.
