I purchased these struts for the rear hatch of a Chevy Trail Blazer. They were very easy to install. I made sure the fittings on each end of both struts snapped solidly in place. One strut failed three days later. The hatch was open at the time (luckily no one was near the hatch when it happened – the hatch is really heavy) and it slammed down when the strut popped out of the fitting. I opened the hatch and found the strut had become completely detached from both fittings and was on the bed of the cargo area.Rather than risk this situation again, I removed the other remaining strut and replaced both of them with OEM struts (Stabilus). The photos (below) show the fittings on both struts . The OEM strut is the top one in both photos. I’m not a mechanical engineer but there is a very clear difference between the two. The OEM strut has a clamp inside the fitting that appears with a more rounded opening that seems designed to better grab the ball-like attach point on the car body. The strut that failed appears to have an interior clamp that is not rounded and also has a mouth that is open wider.Needless to say, the OEM struts were considerably more expensive than the one that failed. However, I think it is money well worth spending!
