These fit perfectly as replacements for 13 year old originals in 2005 Dodge Caravan. You do need to use the washer and lock washer from the originals as these do not come with those parts. A little challenge to get on the hatch because the lift supports are fully expanded and do not compress. No installation instructions come with the parts. And no, not as simple as remove/replace. First you need the correct 6-point star shaped driver to remove and replace the parts. Once that is in hand, I found the original bolts had thread lock and would not budge under hand tension. I put the nut driver into a T-shaped handle and placed piece of thick PVC pipe onto the T-handle to act as a breaker bar. Prior to removing the lift support, place a long board or other prop to hold open the hatch. With one of the lift supports removed, the other support could not hold the door or even slow it from closing. To replace, first tighten the bolt that inserts in the body of the van at the top portion of the hatch opening. Then, loosen but do not remove the bolts on the hatch hinge on that side. This will allow you to open the hatch a little higher so that the second bolt will be able to threaded into the door hole. Do the same for the second side and your done. These lifts “pop” my hatch open now – once you start to open the hatch, these push it open and hold it open quickly. However, it now takes more effort to close the hatch but this is a trade-off I’d take over a hatch that wouldn’t stay open in cold weather.

They do what they claim… they hold up my rear hatch. There’s only one reason I didn’t rate the install as 5 stars. You gotta be careful. It’s a tight fit (and it’s meant to be). However, the bolt heads are a little soft, and you might strip them if you’re not careful.

When we would lift the rear hatch of our van it would slowly come down and every time we turn quickly we would bang our heads. These hydraulic lifts work so well. It pulls the rear hatch way up to the top where it stays and when it comes time to close it , it goes into A firm closing position. No more accidentally banging our heads. We are very pleased with the quality and the price of the item

I bought this set for our 2006 Chrysler Town & Country. The difference between the full pressure on these and that of the failing set is crazy. The liftgate went from my wife being barely able to raise it (and it would start to fall back down when it was cold out) to her having to pull quite a bit to get it to start lowering! It is a lot easier to have a 2nd person to help. After getting the old ones off, I put the ends attached to the vehicle on first as that is the harder angle to get to and it is a lot harder to put that end on second. My helper had to push up on the corner of liftgate as far as it could go to attach the end of the support to the liftgate. Without their help, I could not get it to stay all of the way up there (without it ALL the way up, it is very difficult to get the correct angle and attach that 2nd end). You will definitely want to take the metal washer and lock washer off of the old supports as these do not come with those. Attaching both of these with minimal help took me about 10 minutes.

It took a little fiddling to properly align the bolts patience was the key and the support of a good 2×4 to hold the hatch. These really hold the hatch open, I was surprised as to how bad the old ones were compared to new. I expect these will function this winter just fine.

I liked that it was the correct product. I didn’t like the difficulty I had installing it. I cross threaded the top threads on the passenger side. It was too difficult to get the bolt strait.

Finally, I don’t have my van hatch drooping and hitting me in the head. It is hard to believe how much pressure these two gas springs have. In fact, now it takes two hands to close the hatch. Installation was slightly challenging because of the original screws and getting access to them, but persistence paid off, and I didn’t have to pay a shop $100+ labor to change them.
