I waited about a year to review because I wanted to see if it lasted at least a year, and it did.I priced around, just to find ridiculous prices, for the same starter. I was worried about quality, because of the price. However, this has been a great item.It came packaged really nice. Installed the way it should, and it out performs the stock starter that was on my craftsman riding mower all day long.Better ignition response from the time you hit the key to start it, until you shut the machine off. Doesn’t have the drag that even the new OEM starters have. It just grabs and goes. This was installed last winter. I live near Chicago. We seen a harsh winter both this year, and last. My tractor was out plowing for 10 to 14 hours at a time. Never haff one problem at all with electrical connections, pe this starter freezing up. My stock one worked, except in frigid conditions…This replacement starter fixed all that. Also cured a problem I had with slight flooding, or fuel rich running at the initial crank of the engine. Thing cranks the flywheel so strong and fast, the engine doesn’t have time tp do that anymore.

Direct fit on my Intel 18.5. Overnight early AM shipping is awesome! Used the sledgehammer-to-crank-with-prybar-underneath-flywheel method to pop the flywheel and it worked on the second whack. Youtube has great how-tos.I did loosen/adjust/re-tighten the main motor housing bolts (2) before use. The unit felt hastily assembled – the bolts had uneven tension and the bottom plate was clocked about 15 degrees off from the top plate. Correction took a few seconds – totally acceptable for the price. If you haven’t already – replace/upgrade your solenoid and check (or replace) all your battery/starter cables. I use an OE solenoid from a late 70s v8 Ford van (>500A load rating) and 4 gauge automotive battery cables on my tractor. Works amazing.

I’ve had this for a number of months and it works great. There are a lot of reviews saying the gear breaks. Mine still looks perfect. The secret is that Briggs made two flywheels an aluminum one that used a fiber plastic gear (this one). They also made a steel flywheel with a metal gear. Put this on a steel flywheel and you’ll have a problem.

Did not last 3 months, the hear and shaft are plastic and stripped out.

First thing is reading all the models it fits. Started right up no issues. Started it up 3 times, will know more next spring when I use it more. Parked for the winter. I’m happy with it compared to original price from cub cadet for over $200
