In an effort to extend the life of catalytic converters the EPA and the OEM engine manufacturers have instructed the motor oil companies to reduce the levels of ZDDP (zinc ) in the oil. The ZDDP when present in the exhaust gas can coat the catalyst which results in higher emissions and shortens the service life of the catalytic converter. This reduced ZDDP approach works well to protect the catalytic converters but leaves many older and high performance engines without the proper EP (extreme pressure) wear protection they need to protect the cams, liters and rocker arms. Virtually all non-roller cam designed engines are at risk for significant wear problems. I was looking for a way to boost my Valvoline Synpower since I had a 300hp engine with 4 clyinders. The options I was looking into was either getting 20W-50 racing oils or using regular 5W-30 oil that was recommended in the manual. Since oils have lower zinc and phosphorus since 2008, I needed extra protection for my high power engine. I didn’t mind the zinc damaging my catalytic converter because I plan on replacing my exhaust in the next 5 years anyway. The description of this product lead me to believe that this contained zinc but this uses plastic polymers instead. The downside to this is that the polymer particles could not be fine enough and clog a component. Only time will tell for this, but I will still keep buying this for every other oil change (using half bottle per oil change).

My mistake for reading the giant letters ZINC but there is NO zinc. Buyer beware!

I’m not sure how this stuff is advantageous. Ideally I’d like to see some scientific proof and I’ll keep adding every oil change, otherwise once in a lifetime is enough.

I have a 2007 BMW 328i (N52 normally-aspirated engine) with 106,000 miles. In the last year, I noticed if my car was not driven for several days in temps below 50, the lifters ticked loudly for several minutes until the oil reached operating temperature.I researched this and through recommendations on bobistheoilguy.com decided to try this.I think it’s kind of expensive but it completely cured my problem. My BMW holds 6.9 quarts of oil (I run Mobil 1 0W-40 Euro). I use 1/2 of this bottle (6 oz.) with each oil change. My tick has not returned and my engine is slightly quieter and smoother sounding.

This is a very good substitute for Zinc Phosphorous additive. This would be preferable for cars with catalytic converters since it won’t contaminate the converter. It definitely quieted the lifters in my solid lifter car and also in my generator. I have also used it in my 1996 Chrysler Sebring with hydraulic lifters. Although somewhat subjective, it seems to make the engine run smoother and quieter. I don’t hear the start up valve lifter noise that I sometimes heard. This is a ester base oil additive and I noticed that it does thicken a little when very cold around 10 deg F. Not sure if this could be used for cars using 0w-20 motor oil with variable valve timing in the winter. Tempted to try it in my2015 Mazda 6 with variable valve timing.

This product has protected my engines in every way. My sand rail runs at 5 to 6 thousand RPMS most of the time. Never let’s me down. Reduces ware significantly in the engines. My turbo vehicles love it. Smooth running at all RPMS. In all temperatures. I always use it in every oil change.
