First the good: the quick release latch seems to work well, and the strap connected to the latch looks fairly strong. The snap button closed tightly and didn’t separate. The clip insert was a bit short but seemed to hold well when engaged into the latch. Best part is that I didn’t have to cut or alter the original strap for my helmet.With that out of the way, unfortunately there is more bad than good, to the point where I can’t really recommend this adapter.The biggest glaring omission was any form of instructions. Also, as of the writing of this review, the product description mentioned a video, however, there is no video link in the product description or even a link or QR code provided with the adapter. You just get a little bag with the parts. Fortunately, I have tried a similar more expensive product and was familiar with the installation, and I was able to use the pictures in the product description.The most important part is a real safety issue: the strap with the quick release has to be installed similar to how the D-ring strap should be installed – that is the strap should loop through and then between the rings, then the snaps get closed. To the credit of the adapter, when installed correctly the adapter seems secure enough, but there was no mention of this in the description.The other side of the strap with the metal insert was not too difficult to install. The buckles were wide enough to loop my existing strap with snap button. The buckles (there are two sizes depending on the width of your strap) are plastic and seem a bit cheap – metal buckles would have inspired more confidence.Having thorough and easy to read instructions are vital for safety equipment to insure proper use.The last nail in the coffin was that once installed – the adapter wound up being too loose. With the strap pulled to the shortest possible length, the strap could not even get anywhere tight under my chin. I could fit a Snickers bar in the space I had between the strap and my chin, rendering this adapter useless for my helmet (Giro Switchblade.)Even if the adapter had worked – the whole setup felt fairly bulky. Also, the quick release pull was a bit hard to open, when compared to my other helmet that already has a quick release.

The buckle is made of plastic and metal. It uses a snap fastener on one side and a plastic weave through buckle on the other. One issue is that the original strap to the helmet is no longer needed and the helmet chin strap information suggests you do not have to cut the original strap. Problem is you now have a flapping strap that does not tuck in well and hangs down. The instructions for installation were online only and when you looked you also got advertisements for other brands of quick release buckles. The snap seems industrial but very tight to secure which leaves us concern that the tension may cause it to fail. It also comes with two size strap holders for different helmet strap widths. The function of the buckle seems to work but the tension on the snap is enough of a concern with the helmet we wanted to use this on to not feel safe. I don’t feel that this works on all helmets.

I do not like the feel of this quick release, it looks too tight and flimsy. Not easy to fit with no real instructions. It does not give me a feeling of safety when fitted.

It’s a small little quick-release buckle, designed for a helmet, but can be used in a lot of different scenarios as a quick-release strap. I’m using it to hold a first aid kit to a panel, which can be quickly released with this buckle. It’s easy to use: the snap side of the strap is meant for a d-ring but can be used with one of the included strap rings. The other side is for threading the strap through, and this side can be adjusted/tightened easily. The black piece on the strap ring (the opposite side of the snap side) is rubberized to keep the strap from moving.Overall the quality seems to be good, it doesn’t feel like a cheap item. I may purchase more of these as I can see using these in many different ways, it has so much functionality.

This quick-release buckle kit helped make my high-end helmet that for some reason did NOT have a quick-release buckle so much easier to don. I mean, really, threading a buckle is such a drag once you’ve had other helmets that have these, so I was really glad to find this quick-release adapter. It fits great, although if you have a small head/helmet, it may be too large to work. My helmet is an XL, and I have it on the smallest/tightest adjustments possible and it is just barely tight enough to provide adequate protection. Still, it’s worth ordering to find out if it fits yours. I didn’t think it added any uncomfortable or noticeable bulk at all to the straps.
