We offers three different complete breakaway systems to accommodate various trailer sizes and meet your specific towing needs. All of our breakaway kits are tested for your safety and meet DOT requirements for holding and breakaway situations. This replacement battery case for breakaway kits measures 6″ wide, 5-1/2″ high and 3-1/4″ deep to fit a variety of breakaway batteries. It is constructed from durable polyethylene plastic to protect against the elements and features a lockable tab to accept a padlock and deter tampering and theft. This breakaway battery case is equipped with a plastic bracket and four bolt holes for convenient mounting on your trailer. Nobody hitches up a trailer expecting a breakaway, but that doesn’t mean you should tow unprepared. Be ready for anything with a CURT breakaway kit.

What can you really say about a simple battery box? The answer is…a bit more than you think…..first of all, the Curt Mfg box at about $10.00/unit is up to 3X as cost effective as many other similar models…..I’m a polymer expert….it looks like black co polymer utility poly propylene….for this application cant get much better….no corrosion, impact resistent, etc….also, unlike some UPE boxes. you can drill this easily for wire port access….its a consideration? Now to design, its lid is firm, seals well, locks in place and has a small paddlock hole if you want….complete utility in my view…..the perpendicular mounting plate has 2 holes….very flexible…..all in all, this unit deserves a 5 star….cheaper is not necessairly better, but in this case, you get it all……rock & roll Curt!!!!

I really like this little container, though I don’t use it for a battery. I needed something in my boat to hold my documents for when I get checked by the Water Patrol. Needless to say, you don’t have a lot of space in boats and you want to take advantage of all the room you have. I was able to mount this box without taking up a lot of room. And because it is compact, I was able to place it in a not highly exposed area. I like the fact that it is lockable, and from what I can tell, almost completely waterproof. I can’t say for sure because I haven’t had it out during a really hard rain. I keep my documents in a zip lock plastic bag anyway, so it really doesn’t matter to me. All in all, a great price and I can recommend this if you need a small lockable box. Not sure how it would be for batteries.

I was hoping that this battery box would fit the 10.5 AH sealed battery as the dimensions should allow this, but there is a slight tapper to the box disallowing this type of battery to be used. ( this is very common battery type found in UPS systems, mobile cart, emergency lighting etc ) there are some plastic molded in tabs I assume accommodate battery XYZ perferctely , but after going to specialty battery store the best that I could do was a square 5 AH battery ( like the UB1250 ) while this does fit there is still some slop and I would not call this a perfect fit. ( no modifications of the box was necessary ) to remove the tabs on the side should be fairly straight forward but the bottom could be an issue ( its kind of small area to work in ) there is room in the box for cables and maybe a small trickle charger with a 5 AH battery.PRO’sthe mounting area seems beefy enough to mount and not worry about loosing this thing on the roadthe lid is snug and snaps in place ( even with out a lock I don’t think this thing is going to open at highway speeds )the lock area has a large enough hole to use a real lock ( not the cheap luggage type )plastic is not the bakelite type and should be easy to modify (drill holes for additional / larger wires etc) and will stand up to a lot of abuse / road miles.What would have made this box over the top good. 1) A few more centimeters to allow for a 10 AH battery ( if you warmed this thing up you may be able to make it work, and for 5 bucks I may try it… ) 2) Some way to tie a battery down ( either holes for a zip tie ) or a few molded plastic screw holes to put a strap on. 3) Actually knowing what battery / charger combo was envisioned from the designers ( i’m sure they had a plan, maybe… ) 4) not a fan of the holes almost the middle on the sides would have been good so you could route a battery vent if you were not using a sealed battery. other wise no holes if it leaks I want it contained. also if you are mounting this on your trailer its just a way for dirt and crap to get in ( the problem is easily corrected with some silicone. ) if there were no holes i could have easily put them where I needed… ( this can’t really be listed as a neg because 50% will want holes the other 50% no holes ) my application is inside of a tackroom for a light when the trailer is not hooked to the 12V on the truck so acid leaks are bad…

I have to be honest> I did not see other reviews about the inside dimension. I ordered this at the same time I ordered a battery. The battery was a lot smaller than the outside diameter of the box and it did not fit. The seller should provide all details about this item. I was not aware that in the inside/bottom of the box has 2 sets of tabs that will place the battery higher. Depending on size of battery. In order to use it as is, the battery would have to be tiny. Now, it is possible to somehow cut the tabs away but not before creating a hell of a mess, possibly damaging the box. Here is the link of the battery that I purchased on amazon and did not fit unless the tabs are somehow remove. Good luck with that. The battery is perfect for my application. Product seems fine but time will tell. I did find that the inside dimensions are very different from the outside dimensions so I had to “Customise” it a bit for my battery. Over all it seems fine so far. You will need a lock or a nut bolt combination to keep the lid closed though. It doesn’t stay closed once you open it to fit the battery.

I had a mobile guy come replace the floor of my cargo trailer. He “lost” the battery and the mount. In that moment, I realize that I needed a more secure way to hold (and lock) my trailer brake battery. I found this and it was ABSOLUTELY perfect! Secure and able to lock it. I had to make a couple modifications to meet the trailer’s needs, but it was easy to do with this unit.

This case is solid enough and I would say it would last if it wasn’t for the hinge or lack of on this box. It is a solid piece of plastic, the same material as the box and it had the white tint when I opened the amazon box it arrived in, already showing distress. This will not last in the cold and it difficult to open now to place the battery, once it gets cold, i know it will snap and I will have to design something to fix it.

These boxes are intended to house a breakaway battery and a little wiring on a trailer. They are weather resistant, have a sturdy latch, and mounting tabs for attaching to the trailer.I used these for something entirely different. I have a trailer wiring tester that is built into a plastic ammunition box. I wanted to add a charger and meters for voltage and current. I added two of these, one on each side of the test box. It worked very well.

Now that I run lithium batteries this box worked perfect. With a minor change it took my starting battery. It’s pictured. txs. Do you happen to have the a box that fits battery YTX20L. If u do i’ll buy 2
