I have a large welding blanket for big jobs, or places that are sensitive enough that I need to have everything close by completely covered with zero possibility of sparks from my welder going anywhere. The only problem is that it is HUGE and bulky. If I’m just welding a broken table frame in the basement, I don’t really need that kind of protection. However I still don’t want sparks flying onto the rubber floor mat. These are only 20 inches square. Perfect for putting one or two of these under a small job to protect the floor. They include a nice pair or leather gloves, although unlike most welding gloves, they don’t protect your arms as they are not long enough. They also include a nice welding hammer that, unlike the cheap ones that often come with low end welders, is big and heavy enough to actually do the job. I give this five stars.

These are great for many things besides welding. For welding they keep the excess heat away from direct contact (although conduction still occurs), when you are using a torch. They are great for soldering pipes in or close to a wall for example, when repairing a leaky copper tube. Keeps you from starting the framing or anything inside the wall from catching fire. They are also good for soldering at the bench when using a hot air gun when doing rework or new work on pcb’s. The size is great and they are nice and thick. And you get a pair of nice gloves and a slag removal hammer. Nice kit for the welder and maker and homeowner that is handy. Recommended.

I took a MAP torch to it for a few seconds and it didn’t even phase the blanket. It smoked just a tiny bit afterward, but that’s it. I think this should work just fine and might even be able to use it in the kitchen in case of a grease fire to smother it. Good thing there’s three of them in the package!It came with a pair of really cheap feeling gloves, but I don’t care about those. It also came with a welding chipping hammer. That was a nice addition.Overall, it does what it’s supposed to (and it’s even very soft). A+ in my book.

I had no idea this stuff existed until I found this listing. I’ve got fiberglass welding blankets that I use to protect things while welding but I hate using them because they always shed itchy glass fibers, and they’re heavy.These carbon felt blankets are soft (soft enough I have to hide them where my cats can’t make a nest out of them), suitable for covering smaller areas, they’re easy to handle, and best of all, they don’t shed!I was a little incredulous at first but I hit one with a butane torch and it took several seconds of sustained flame to show any effect at all. It’s certainly enough to stop weld spatter.

Why better than fiberglass? Because it’s not fiberglass!This material is nice and thick and soft, and it handles heat very well – splatters will not get through, you can use these little blankets to protect whatever’s around your welding work that you don’t want to get marred.The gloves and slag hammer are an extra bonus. If you weld you’ve already got some, and they’re better than these. (The gloves, for sure!) But hey, an extra slag hammer is good.No problems handling heat, so welding spatter will provide no difficulty for this felt material. The squares are smallish – a little under two feet on each side – so they’re versatile and maneuverable and lightweight! For bigger projects you’ll want a bigger blanket, but these are good for smaller stuff or for work in tighter places.

I have a young teen son that started welding this past year so we needed a few items to help him along in learning the skill/trade. These blankets have been a surprisingly good thing to add to his arsenal. The blankets prevent and catch slag and sparks from your weld points to protect other surfaces and prevent burns/flames/etc A safety feature if you are not familiar with what they are for.They are 20×20 inches and decently thick. You can move them around tight spaces as well as position them around projects that might be too big for a welding table/bench. Though a much larger project might warrant a larger welding blanket than these – the 3 make for a nice wrap around a pole, leg, etc.The blankets do a good job and don’t burn thru when slag and sparks remain for a period on them. You can even use them as very small fire suppression (snuffing it out).They come with a chipping hammer which is good for “chipping” away slag or excess materials. It is a pretty good hammer considering it is a bonus.A set of gloves are included as well. They are very basic and we use them for when additional hands are needed that don’t have their own welding gloves handy. Other than that, as others have said, if you already weld, you have better ones already. So the chipping hammer and the blankets are the best pieces of this set/package.Glad we got these welding blankets. Recommend them. We will be getting more in a couple of months. They are great welding blankets!
