For best results, use TotalBoat Special Brushing Thinner 100 or TotalBoat Spray Thinner 101 based on how you want to apply. A pint covers up to 40-50 sq. ft, and a quart covers 80-100 sq. ft, providing excellent coverage. Maintenance is minimal with easy cleanup using TotalBoat Boat Cleaner or a similar mild cleaner – if the color appears too dull even after cleaning, apply a fresh coat to bring back that golden luster. For added UV resistance or to achieve a high-gloss finish, consider using a one-part varnish or clear coat finish. I made a last minute decision to paint the cove stripe on the boat gold and ordermy gold paint from Total Boat on the assertion it would remain durable and bright for a long time.After the transaction I doubted it would get to me in time and taped off the stripe soif necessary I’c be able to paint it after launching because I could not ask the yard to hold up the lift longer than Thursday late am….Well, Wednesday came and boat was sitting in the lift late am ready for a morning launch when I got the notice my paint had been delivered! Ran off and picked it up drove back to yard and applied 1st coat very pleased with the sparkle and opacity! Early Thursday morning everyone says go ahead get another coat on so was able to apply coat #2 to Windwitch and have it tack free by 11pm for launch…Thanks Total Boat! Great paint and great shipping job!

Wow, this paint has awesome flow. It makes your job easy If you are at all decent at painting (and if you think there’s nothing to painting or varnishing, then you might not get the same results). I had to keep moving the ladder to paint the boat’s cove stripe. Even when I lost a perfect wet edge, it was fine. Just do your airplane landings and takeoffs, it’s forgiving paint. BUT — be sure to follow the directions. Duh! Of course, I thought I knew better and tried a disposable foam brush; the paint went on too thin. And, like they say, you need to continually stir the paint or you will get uneven results. BUT — it is not glossy. The finish is satin and chalky, but worse, rain / runoff stains the paint; I couldn’t remove the stains with either more clean water or with mineral spirits. I coated it with Awlgrip’s Awlcare after I did the last two coats (with a brush; after two, or was it four, coats with a foam brush – and if you try foam, use a real Jen brush, the generic ones turn into floppy noodles) The Awlcare kept the rain from creating streaks. (I’m concerned: Awlcare only lasts a few months.) The instructions say paint w/ a clear gloss if you want it to look like that gold rim around your grandmother’s ash tray. (OK, they didn’t exactly say it that way.) We had just painted the boat; I didn’t want to risk clear drips. (At least I can see gold drips, not that I had drips with this product.)I did the cove and “do dads” in 80-85 degree weather with 70% or more humidity. It dried very quickly. I put on an additional coat much sooner than the instructions indicated — basically when over paint on the masking tape was dry. It worked. (Only two coats in a 24 hour day, though.)Fineline tape ripped off very nicely, giving a clean edge and regular blue tape worked OK – no peel off, the blue just didn’t seal as well. (Thank you Total Boat! No razor blades needed.)The paint is very soft for many days – unless it’s in direct sun. That lets you have time to scrape off any goofs, such as overpaint or bleeding under your tape. The spots that were in direct sun seemed to soften back up with generous water misting. My test board went rock hard (in the garage, no sun) within a week. The initial softness also means you will need to take care. Something like a fender rub will probably take it off.

The product has a heavy oder and needs to be mixed well. I painted sign lettering for an HOA they look nice. I ordered too much and couldn’t return unused can.

This worked great for my Maleficent staff for Halloween. I needed a gold that was sparkly but I’m gonna be holding it all night and setting it on stuff. So having a thick finish that wouldn’t look like crap if it was barely scratched, was important. Worked amazing! Took a few coats and a lot of drying and sanding in between but came out exactly as I wanted.

This paint looks great and goes a long way. The gold finish sparkles and is eye catching in a good way. I have used this paint before with another project and it has lasted years. This is a great product for outdoor use as it is very durable.

When mixed and applied per the directions this stuff is terrific! I was unable to get any gold paint that would survive the summer outdoors. This stuff is still beautiful after two summers. It has a nice, rich gold color that appears to be long lasting. You can see the tiny gold flakes in the paint. It applied very easily with no fuss and mixed up easily. I use it on a big outdoor sun plaque and I couldn’t be more satisfied.
