Instructions:
If the Black Ground Wire is Not Already Connected to the CDI Box,Fasten to One of the 4 Mounting Holes on the Outside of the Box.
Fasten the Other End of This Black Wire to a Good Ground Spot on the Engine
If the Engine Uses an Orange Colored Lead That is connected to the Box,Connect this to the “Black/Yellow” Stud on the New Box.

I didn’t give it five stars because I have only used it once and cannot validate the longevity/reliability. I have an older 1984 mercury black max 150. Hard starts, excessive smoke, and extremely loud and rough idle. Starting fluid didn’t help either and it seemed no matter what sequence I used it flooded. I checked spark and ohm’d the switch boxes. Was missing spark on one cylinder and one switch box tested bad. Order this and another one from a different seller. Tested the original boxes again and both tested good. Checked all my connections and everything worked fine. Then all of a sudden the symptoms reappear but the original switch boxes test good again. Went ahead and replaced them with these and all my problem have gone away. Easiest start it’s ever had, smoothed out the idle and the holeshot is much better. I’ve only ran these boxes for one evening starting, stopping, idleing and wide open. They worked great. Don’t know that I’ll be able to update this after a few months or a year but I’ll try. For the price, don’t hesitate to try this out. I’ve chased a lot of bugs out of my outboard and these work great.

Fast quick shipment. Strap was a mystery. not gooe explanation as to how to install this. After installtion no spark when trying to start. Not sure how to test this to verify it is a good working unit. Not customer support to answer the issue

This product does not work the same as the OEM version in my Mercury 1979 70HP outboard, serial# 5,466,253 as claimed in the description.It moved the timing 4 degrees at 600RPM so that means the input circuit is not the same as the Mercury product and is triggering at a different point on the sensor pulse. Even though this can be adjust back to 0 it throws the spark advance off by 4 degrees which is not easy to change.Looking at the drive to the primary of the coil with an oscilloscope it can be seen that the output circuit is not the same either. The Mercury appears to charge the capacitor then series connects it to the coil while this one charges up the capacitor thru the coil then grounds the capacitor to discharge.There appear to be many different versions of these CDI on the market and even when they look the same under close inspection they are different.

Tuning up my boat for summer. Order all new ignition components including, trigger, stator, CDI switch box, rectifier and flywheel. After the work, the boat started right up, idled smooth but on the lake it had no power. Spent so much time going thru all kinds of repair. Almost replaced the engine. Come to find out all along the new switchbox was defective all along.OEM or name brand parts. These no name stuff will cost you your expensive summer vacation.

Install was easy. Boat started right up first try. Would recommend. Only problem was a bolt broke off so I zip tied it on. Still works great!
